Paine Mountain Northfield- Snowshoe, Moderate. 4 miles round trip, 1,110 ft. elevation\r\ngain, moderate gradient. Est. time, 3 hrs. Tour the historic landscape of Paine Mountain, forest to farms and back to forest. Views are present to the east and west. Travel will be primarily on old woods roads and trails. We will stop for a lunch break at a suitable spot along the trail. Ski to Little Elmore Pond. The trail starts on Rt 12, five miles south of Elmore village. We will ski 3 miles north on a logging road to arrive at the pond. There are some hills mixed with flatter terrain. This half-mile long pond is completely undeveloped and is a real gem.
