CANCELLED due to muddy conditions. Hike. Middlesex - White Rock/ Hunger Mountain in CC Putnam State Forest. Moderate to Strenuous, depending on conditions. 5.75 miles, 3-4 hours. A steady ascent and some rock scrambling rewards hikers with spectacular views including Camel’s Hump, Killington, and Mt. Mansfield. Bring appropriate hiking footwear and clothing, (conditions depending) micro spikes and/or snowshoes, hiking poles, water and snacks. Hike the Honey Hollow Loop trail, which is on old woods roads and public roads, to look for early signs of spring. Bring water, lunch, and snacks. Walk. East Montpelier. Easy-Moderate (some hills). 3-6.4 miles (group decides). Walk on Sparrow Farm Road to North Branch trail system. Group can decide to carry on around the Horn of the Moon road circuit for about 6.4 miles where there are some hills but nice views of the valley and the Worcester range. Hike. Calais. Easy. 2-3 miles. 2-3+ hours. Hike to the boardwalk on Chickering Bog, which is actually a fen, and along a nearby woods trail to see early spring woodland and bog plants. We will stop at the boardwalk, observe, and compare the features of bogs and fens. Bring water and snacks; and binoculars if you want to view across the open water.
